First Show- Accomplished!

Well, this post is to notify you all that my first solo show was a success! Thank you all who came to Final Friday at Dock 410 to see the show. I was so honored to have so many people come to the show and appreciate the work. There were several new paintings at the show, including small gouache paintings.

one week left before the show....

So... A week from today I will be putting up work for my Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis show.... Not as big of a deal as I thought it was going to be due to some technical and planning difficulties and guffaws but that's okay... It put things in perspective about who needs to see my work, if anyone, why they need to see my work and how that has to do with me as an artist and me as a person. I realized that I am not my work. My work is objects. Paintings are tangible... The painting process is me. I am the painter, not the paintings. And I must make the work, making is the important part. For some reason, I have to make it. I don't have to have anyone see it anymore. It's not about that. It's about working. It's about going straight back up into my studio the next night and starting a new painting. It's enlightenment.

Exciting new developments....

This is an image from Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland". I have always been inspired by these illustrations. We read the book in sixth grade and all I wanted to do was look at them as I read. Then again, the book was very entertaining and artistic as well.

This is a piece by Katogi Mari. I found his or her, not sure yet, work last week and felt like showing because it was inspirational to me also.

So, the last few days I have been having a lot of fun on photoshop creating some mock ups for new paintings. It is so much fun and gives me more freedom than ever. Putting together these composites feels like play time and then painting them is great because I can still change whatever I want as I paint. It is truly fun and feels great. As for the meanings, they are still a little all over the place, but they still have to do with a few things very strongly: girlhood fancies, timeless themes/ideals, gender roles, cycling of past events and themes and a bit of whimsy along with bittersweet feelings and feelings of realization. The work is explorative so I really can't put them in a box and label them. Each piece is a further exploration of my life. Yes, they are autobiographical and I couldn't separate that if I tried, nor do I want to separate that idea. The work is what it is. And it feels right.

a painting in progress...

So this painting was originally called "Mildred" and it was an abstract sort of deal... Now it is less abstract. I will work on getting that original paining up here to show the difference. But this is definitely moving in the direction I want to go... We'll see what happens in the future. By the way, the new title is "But the past is so clear to her".

reasons.

The reason I started this blog is to document more of my doings, and maybe to be held a little more accountable as a person.  I really want to use it to document my artistic endeavors and have sort of a dump all for my ideas, struggles and "triumphs".  So I plan to post progress photos of work and make this sort of a home for the process of my paintings and drawings and whatever else gets in here.  The end.
